We're so excited to be hosting the launch of our Who Owns Brighton? project and look forward to you joining us on the evening of the 11th.
You'll find out more about the project, and how you can get involved and hear from our funders, the Civic Power Fund, about the amazing work that they're doing supporting community organising groups across the UK and why they're excited about this project. We'll then host a roundtable discussion involving some of the people and groups whose work has inspired Who Owns Brighton? This includes:
Anna Minton - journalist and author of Ground Control and Big Capital
Sam Freeman from The Shift, a worldwide movement to reclaim and realise the right to housing
Rebecca Searle, local historian and author of A History of the Housing Crisis
The team behind recent research into housing financialisation* in Greater Manchester
Everyone who signs up to join the launch will also receive a free link to watch the award-winning documentary Push, which investigates why we can't afford to live in our cities anymore. The film will be available to watch during the week of the launch. Please note that if you have signed up a guest for the launch, you will just receive one link so you'll have to watch it together, or get them to sign up individually.
* housing financialisation is the process by which housing is treated as a commodity - a vehicle for wealth and investment - rather than a social good.
