What have we found out and where do we go next?
For the last four months, the Who Owns Brighton? group of community researchers has been investigating what they can find out about Circus Street through its history, the people who live and work there, the development process and where the the money goes, and what this tells us about housing and development in the city.
At the action day we will:
- share the findings from this research
- think about the critical points, how to present them, and how to use these to engage with policy and decision makers
- explore some of the actions and ideas that have come out of the project and where we want to take it next.
The day is open to everyone, whatever the level of participation in the project to date. The day will be a mix of presentations from the research groups and whole group discussions and activities. It will be informal with regular breaks and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

What happens after the workshop?
We are planning events and activities after the summer to use the findings and outcomes of project to engage with policy and decision makers in the city. The aim of the project is to see if and how we as citizens can more actively engage in the planning and development process, to make sure it meets the needs of the city, and the people who live here. We don't have any set expectations about what people will do, or commit to, coming out of the action day and as through the project, we're looking forward to seeing what ideas have emerged and how people mobilise around these, based on their own interests, time and capacity. We've been really inspired by the engagement, enthusiam and action of the group to date and are excited to see how it develops.
